Emmanuela de León Fine Art Photography Studio
Be the Inspiration.
We're a small, informal, loosely-assembled, and comfortable group, working with causes, groups, and individuals we find particularly compelling, to create art and participate in giving what balance we can to our communities.
Most of us, with the exception of Ilysse, are completely self-taught. Ilysse, who has formal art and photography training from superior schools in Brooklyn, NY, assures us that the art of photography is about learning the academic codes—then forgetting all of it, to push for an individual perspective. Our friend, internationally-renowned photographer Jack Radcliffe, has been making that same point to Emmanuela, for some time, now *s
We won't try to dazzle you with endless talk or displays of photography equipment. We favor natural light; natural muslin backdrops; cotton draperies; even mineral cosmetics. It's all pretty simple, here.
Your comfort is our main focus. We like to laugh. Your ideas about what's inspirational in art is what will help drive a session.
Session equation: you + us = art.
Be the inspiration.
The Staff
Principal Photographer. The owner of the Studio has the legal name Canéla A. Jaramillo, and was first choice in her doctoral program at Stanford University, where she was both a Compton Fellow and a Danforth Fellow.
Under her Doing Business As (DBA) name, Emmanuela de León, she works as Principal Photographer for the Studio. Her project, Claiming Masculinity, has garnered national recognition, and has been represented in multiple web publications.
In 2011, a piece from Emmanuela's Art of Scars portfolio was selected for inclusion amongst an art auction for an upcoming lesbian film depicting the healing arts.
The photographer is a member of the World Association of Nongovernmental Organizations (WANGO); and a contributing member of both BEHANCE and United States Artists.
Today, she operates in several worlds: as a photographer; a freelance writer; an editor; a parent; an educator; and a community activist.
Associate Editor for Web Development and Project Assistant for for the Studio Ilysse Weisenfeld graduated with honors in Social Sciences in New York, while continuing to gift our Studio with her experience and skills and grammar perfection, photo composition, and her splendid mastery with proofing. Ilysse is also a photographer, in her own right. Selections of her work with Emmanuela appear on this page (and represent the first time Emmanuela ever worked with a femme photographer—very freeing *s).
Project Manager PJ Whitt has our awards for outstanding sets, lighting, wardrobe, props, and her natural ease with first-time models. PJ also collaborates as Photographer on some sessions. A few selections of her work appear on this page (Emmanuela is deeply fond of PJ's bodyscapes, and recommends her highly).
Our IT Support, Davíd Brancato, has been with us for twenty years, and boasts an outstanding record of of flawless technological acumen.
We must, of course, extend our gratitude to every participant who has collaborated with us, to make our work what it's become to date.
