The movement of emotion, history, expectation—so much is engraved in the gestures, on the flesh of the body. While I am seemingly incapable of photographing still objects, my excitement at the way light falls upon an object is in knowing precisely how a body (and whose) will be lit there. These are the monochrome studies; you may also browse the Color Figure Studies.
I love hands. Feet. Knees. Natural fibers. The power of truths. That I have an affinity for draping bodies, in both classical and contemporary manners, is amply evident, in my work.
No, I've never asked anyone to pose nude for me: everyone who has ever disrobed in these works has done so of personal accord.
Every body, like every face, like every hand, is a cartography of our survival. Bodies hold truths we don't speak. These are, remember, all first-time models: ordinary people, showing themselves in extraordinary moments. I thank each of them.
